Description:
The 125-micron VCL Membrane is designed to minimise the risk of interstitial condensation within a building's structure. Acting as an effective vapour barrier, it restricts the movement of warm, moist air, significantly reducing the chances of damp and rot developing within walls, roofs, or other structural elements.
Why a Vapour Control Layer is Essential
Vapour control layers (VCLs) play a crucial role in modern construction. They help manage the water vapour generated by a building's occupants, which, if allowed to condense within structural components, can compromise the building's integrity over time.
Applications of Vapour Control Layer Membranes
Our high-performance 125mu VCL membranes are versatile and suitable for use in wall, floor, and roof constructions. Commonly installed within timber frame systems, they are typically positioned on the internal side of the framework to ensure effective moisture management. Additionally, this VCL is compatible with our range of cavity drain membranes, whether for above-ground or below-ground applications. When used with cavity drain membranes, it requires a mechanically fixed batten and board system paired with insulation.
How to Install a Vapour Control Layer
- Positioning: The VCL should be installed on the warm side of the insulation (the
- room-facing side of the structure).
- Fixing: For timber frameworks, secure the membrane with nails.
- Sealing: Ensure all edges and overlaps are fully sealed with tape, such as double-
- sided DPM tape, to maintain the barrier's integrity.
- By following these guidelines, you can enhance the longevity and structural health of your building while preventing moisture-related damage.
